Summer Bike Events & UPDATES!

It’s been awhile since we’ve posted an update. Our summer has been jam packed with cycling events around Madison. Everything from Cyclofemme to Fix A Flat Clinics to Sunday morning brunch rides has kept us busy!

We’re still in the planning process of trying to get an awesome and unique women’s only shop in Madison, but part of our planning is getting our name out to the world. Spoke Haven has been working with key partners such as the Wisconsin Bike Fed, Team Luna Chix, Wheels & Reels, the City of Madison, and other community leaders to make this all happen. So far we’ve received great feedback and support from every person we’ve worked with up to this point and it’s all very exciting.

Our goal is to continue to help not only offer fun cycling events for women in our community, but to also support others who want to help promote cycling for fun, for sport, and as a mode of transport. We want more butts on bikes and we can’t make that happen unless we all support one another.

Spoke Haven will continue to provide support and educational resources through the end of the year. We’ll continue with workshops through the winter, indoor training opportunities, and planning of events for next year’s riding season. We also plan on continue to change and mold our business plan to provide the best possible scenario for us to thrive. There’s still plans of running a crowd funding campaign to offer up fun and unique incentives for those who want to support us. We’re also selling our awesome jerseys (seen in the photos above) in our online store for those who want to show their support. They were made for us by Borah Teamware (aka Mt. Borah) right here in Wisconsin. Full zip, fully custom jerseys with a club cut for comfort. Men’s and women’s sizes available!

We’re looking into getting some other fun Spoke Haven branded gear made up that’s a little more pocket book friendly, but in the meantime continue to keep an eye on our online store and check us out on social media or Meetup.com for info on upcoming events.

Thank you to all of you who have been supportive and have come out to all of our events. We cannot express how amazing it feels to be able to provide women a place to be social, have fun, and ride bikes!

See you on the road 🙂

The Wisconsin Bicycle Federation Launches: Women & Bicycles

Today marks a great day for women cyclists in Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Bicycle Federation (Bike Fed) has launched a Women & Bicycles ambassador program modeled after the Washington Area Bicyclist Association’s own Women & Bicycles program.

The program is centered around a handful of bike ambassadors who will plan events based around cycling. That includes workshops, social hours, bike rides, and other events that promote cycling to women.

The Bike Fed’s program has one representative for each major cycling city who will spend their time planning out events and trying to increase the population of women cyclists in their respective territories.

The women selected to be a part of the ambassador program have strong ties to the cycling world and local cycling industries. Each have exemplified the spirit of cycling in their communities and are good examples of what an every day cyclist looks like.

We’re proud to announce that our own Cassandra Habel has been selected to be an ambassador in the Madison area. Her advocacy work with Saris Cycling Group, the Wisconsin Bike Fed, and on her own time starting a women’s cycling Meetup group helped land her the ambassadorship.

If you live in the state of Wisconsin and would like to become an ambassador in your area, please visit:

Congratulations to all the ambassadors and we’re excited to be a part of the next phase of cycling for our wonderful state!

Business Planning

We just wanted to give everyone an update letting you know we’ll be putting things on hold for a bit with the blog, possibly doing some re-structuring and figuring out our groove.

Keri and I have been hard at work, putting together a kick-ass business plan for Spoke Haven. We have a deadline coming up for submitting our plan for a course we both took this spring.  It’s getting down to the wire! The hardest part has been forecasting financials and really carving out the type of shop we’d like to have. We’ve now got a pretty clear vision of who we’d like to be and it’s a lot different from any other shop in the Madison area.

I want to take a moment to thank our friends with small businesses who have offered up some really great advice. Coast In Bikes, NessAlla Kombucha, Chrysalis Hair and Body, Hinckley Design & Production, and the Froth House. We’re very lucky to have a wonderful community of small business owners who are willing to help out other up and comers. Please support their businesses!

It may take awhile to get everything going, but we have some fundraising goals for next year as well as some events and promotions to help get the word out about the future shop. There’s going to be lots of touring of commercial space and talks with distributors happening. We’re both really excited to see our dreams of small business ownership coming to life!

There’s some talk of doing either a Kickstarter or IndieGoGo campaign. While we’ll be the owners of the shop, we want our customers, friends, and family to feel like they too own a little part of it. Not to mention, giving back to those who choose to support our endeavors! Having a fun community space is really important to us and we want to be more than your average corporate or overstuffed shop.

Spoke Haven really wants to support and collaborate with local businesses and manufacturers of bike related goods. There are so many great companies doing such unique, progressive things in the world of cycling. We want to help them grow as we grow.

Once we finish up our business plan and move into our new home in October, we’ll hopefully have more info available. In the meantime will still try to post about upcoming events, etc. We may just be slow on doing product reviews and similar write ups. Believe me, there’s a lot of cool gear we’ve been using and would love to share!

Please feel free to shoot us an e-mail if you have any questions, comments, or advice. We’d love to hear people’s ideas on what they’d like to see in a local shop. -info@spokehaven.com-

One of things we’re going to work on is getting an e-mail list set up so once we get things rolling with the business we can keep folks updated on what we’re doing and where we’re at. We also want to spread the word about events we’ll be attending or hosting relating to the business.

Thanks so much for coming along for the ride!
